Angelo Bertoglio was born in Cremona. After his art studies at the Pavia School of Art, he specialised at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. His studio is based in Pavia, where he lives and works. Over the years, Bertoglio has developed and deepened a profound knowledge of oil painting with an articulate and high-impact painting technique aimed at the continuous search for chromaticism and chiaroscuro effects that are always present in his works, almost all of which are based on abstract compositions or multi-dimensional geometries that evoke visions of interiors and glimpses of nature. The recurring cracks and ‘folds’ in his compositions give the work an almost sculptural momentum that goes beyond the pure two-dimensional materiality typical of pictorial works. Bertoglio works only with natural light in order to better render in his works the alternation of light and shadows and colours following the evolution of the different hours of the day as a symbol of the dynamics and changes of the human being. He has been exhibiting regularly since 1985 in Italy (Milan, Pavia) and abroad (Tel Aviv).
