Francesco Costantino

Francesco Costantino

Francesco Costantino (Palermo, 1986) Francesco Costantino, on the other hand, is influenced by a different historical and cultural background. Born as a writer, he took his first steps in the art world during his years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo, expressing himself mainly through the spray technique and focusing on portraits. A stay in France, between Paris and Rennes, marked a decisive turning point in his artistic research. Fascinated by classical painting, he began experimenting with oil on canvas, expanding his subjects beyond portraits. Later, his experience as assistant to the artist Alexandra Mir introduced him to the world of marker drawing, further enriching his expressive language. Starting in 2016, his artistic production becomes more complex and layered. Costantino begins to superimpose images from seemingly distant worlds: urban culture intertwines with art history, and he continues to experiment with different techniques, from marker on paper to oil on canvas. Since 2019, his painting has become increasingly free and gestural. Broad, decisive brushstrokes, blurred outlines and a suspended atmosphere characterise his works, where a jungle of chaotic elements – from art history to underground youth culture – dialogue with each other, creating multiform and allusive images.
